YukonLet's give the General a break. The GMC Yukon and Chevrolet Tahoe epitomize what's wrong with the American auto industry. These and other full-sized SUVs menace our roads and cause incalculable deaths because of their weight and high centers of gravity. They contribute mindlessly to global warming. Many would even claim they're the reasons we're waging war in Iraq. But how else are you going to tow your bass boat? Rightly or wrongly, many (mostly American) people still find a reason to own an SUV, even with soaring gas prices. Their numbers are dwindling as new solutions arrive. In the meantime, these two-mode hybrids deliver 21 mpg in the city and 22 mpg on the highway. Their towing capacity is 6,000 pounds. And insiders say that GM won't charge a premium for the hybrid technology. In other words, they should begin to put their full-bore gas-swilling evil twins out to pasture. Not a moment too soon.
