The site administrator of OiNK.cd, having been released from custody after his arrest last week for running a torrent tracker site that specialized in indie rock and unreleased albums, has regained control of the site, which now features this image of some waffles plus a pre-filled Google search link for "what to use instead of oink."

The first result on Google is the blog of a coder called brokep, himself said to be working on an OiNK alternative called BoINK. (The Google pass-through appears to be a way for him to link to the site without using a direct link). Brokep's blog post contains a long list of alternative places where people can download the sort of music that used to be available on OiNK (which now bills itself as "the number 1 site in the world for waffle recipes."

The point appears to be to demonstrate the so-called Hydra theory,
which stipulates that for every file sharing network the authoritiesshut down, more will take its place -- just like the Hydra of Greek

mythology, which grew two new heads every time Heracles chopped one of them off.

Copyfighters are fond of this reference, because it shows the apparentfutility of content owners' battle against file sharing. However, theymight be forgetting that Heracles did eventually manage to kill theHydra, by cauterizing the necks before they could sprout new heads andburying the final head underneath a rock.
