With the line between laptop and desktop growing ever hazier, traveling computers are being called on to do things they really weren't designed for. Take multimedia. Sure, anything will sound reasonably good over a set of competent headphones. But if you want to share your goodies, lightweight speakers and wimpy amplification guarantee torture for everyone.
To the rescue comes Logitech's AudioHub, a serious chunk of audio power. Besides a 15-watt amplifier, subwoofer and two satellite speakers, you get a three-port USB hub and a sleek, smart design that adjusts to fit the width of your laptop.
At 17-inches in length and several pounds in weight, the AudioHub isn't something you'll want to routinely schlep around with your travel kit. But if your laptop has become your main work ax, it could be just the thing to turn your cubicle into party central. Our test model was able to handle everything from Stanley Clarke thumping bass to a squealing Kevin Nealon on "Weeds" with clarity and oomph. And the cable management hooks on the back did a nice job of reducing clutter.
