Throwing the car keys to your expensive ride onto the table is no longer the way to impress the laydeez. Audi's wants you to carry this ugly box with you instead. The concept device hooks into the heart of the car, docking into a dashboard slot. First off, it functions as a passable cellphone: WiFi, UMTS, and MP3 player (with suspiciously familiar browsing – the covers flow) and a touchscreen.
Look at the car/phone hybrid functions, though, and things get more interesting. The "Audio Mobile Device" is required to start the car, and will function as a SatNav unit. It also plays nice with the car's onboard cameras, storing photos. The car will even send images over the air if it snaps pics of an intruder, and then enter tracking mode.
We also assume that the phone and music functions will integrate with those in the car. All in all, a nice idea, with the advantage that there won't be any car keys in your pocket to scratch it. Build this into a real cellphone, though, and we'll start to get excited.
