Picnic, an annual media and creative think-fest that promises to “uncork your brain,” is underway this week in Amsterdam with its usual eclectic roster of speakers, including Cory Doctrow, Craig Newmar, Walt Mossberg, Biz Stone and Paul Pope. You can check out much of the action via archived interviews and a very cool live feed from the conference (begins 9am local time).
But generating the most noise this year is the Picnic Green Challenge, an open international contest for a carbon-reducing product or service that consumers will love and could be developed for the marketplace within two years. They’ve winnowed thousands of applications down to five, and a jury headed by Richard Branson and Emily Farnworth of The Climate Group will award the €500,000 first prize this weekend. Check back next week to learn more about the winning proposal.
