MLB Deal Brings Playoffs To Joost, But Not In The U.S.

sox.jpgIt's that time of year again; baseball is about the move into the post season. For those of us that can't always catch the games we want live, Joost has just announced a deal with Major League Baseball to replay all games from the Division Series, League Championship Series, and World Series within 24 hours of their initial airing.

Before you get too excited and rush out to implement the same sort odd measures we’ve been known to use to avoid hearing scores before we can catch the game, keep in mind that Joost’s deal applies only to those outside the U.S. and Japan.

As anyone who’s even been outside North America and Japan can tell you, the rest of the world really doesn’t care about baseball. See this map for an explanation of why cricket trumps baseball in the larger world.

So why does the Joost deal not include the only people who might possibly watch these re-broadcasts? The press release doesn’t really address the issue, in fact it’s buried in the third paragraph, but we suspect it has to do with MLB and the absurd restrictions it places on content.

Still, the re-broadcast announcement is good news for baseball fans abroad and here’s hoping it expands to include the U.S. and Japan in the near future. By the way, anyone know how to spoof an IP in Joost?
