Bill Dube's KillaCycle has thankfully not become a literally-named machine after he crashed the bike into a van yesterday during an demonstration at Wired's NextFest's opening ceremony in Los Angeles. His pride may be damaged ("Yes, I am an idiot :/"), but he reports on his web site only a few cuts and scrapes and minor damage to the KillaCycle. Video of the crash, which leaves Dube frighteningly flat on his back, below. The action starts at 3:15.

Apparently there was some soapy water involved that Dube didn't navigate as planned, according to his site:

I had not intended the bike to move in the soapy water, just spin the tire.

Got it slowed down to about 20 mph. Front wheel is bent, as are front forks. Cowling is not nearly as pretty as it was.

Battery box took a hit from the front wheel. Almost certainly, some cells were shorted. No smoke. No fire. Ultra safe cells. Had these been anything but A123 Systems Nano-phosphate cells, shorts would have caused a serious fire.

All said and done, it could have been worse! But I'm sure he wishes he would've wiped out during a practice run rather than in front of a crowd of reporters.

The KillaCycle is the fastest quarter-mile electric drag bike in the world, according to Dube's site. More fun KillaCycle facts here.
