More talk of the Google Phone has surfaced with new details from inside sources. The report appears in The Boston Globe where Scott Kirsner writes, "One entrepreneur who has seen the Google phone prototype, but asked not to be named, described it as 'simpler' and not as flashy as Apple's iPhone… Another entrepreneur, who saw a prototype earlier this year, described three-dimensional, animated buttons on the screen. That prototype had a small QWERTY keyboard, like a Treo or a BlackBerry, rather than relying on a touch-screen, as the iPhone does."
At this point enough information about the Google phone has leaked out to virtually guarantee that the search giant will be competing (in some way) with Apple for cell phone market share in the coming year. More details here…
Update: Om Malik spent his holiday weekend digging up Google phone dirt and came up with the following tidbits about the phone:
-It can run Java and is based on a mobile version of Linux
-It can display video clips
-The user-interface has a dedicated search box
-The prototype is similar to the T-Mobile Dash
