British graphic novelist Warren Ellis, author of DC Vertigo classics like Transmetropolitan and The Authority, is appearing in Second Life today (New Globe Theater; 4pm ET) to promote his first novel, Crooked Little Vein, which was published last week by Harper Collins.

Fans of Ellis will get a helluva kick out of this Gonzo-style caper that has private eye Mike McGill making a crooked dash across America in search of the original, lost version of the U.S. constitution. This version has certain surreal, alien qualities that can restore morality if personal liberties get too far out of hand. According to the President’s creepy, heroin-addicted chief of staff, who hires McGill to find it and thus restore order, “The book binding is weighted with meteor fragments. The design is such that the sound of the book opened has infrasonic content, too low for human hearing. The book briefly vibrates at eighteen hertz, which is the resonant frequency of the human eyeball.”

McGill’s clumsy search for the book, accompanied by a nympho assistant named Trix, is laugh-out-loud funny with scenes from Godzilla fetishist parties and just about every form depraved sexual debauchery you could ever hope for.

Ellis will do a 30-45 minute reading/Q&A session on Second Life via Skype. Attendees will receive t-shirts for their avatar or a body tattoo depending on their preference, and will also all get a virtual copy of the book which contains an excerpt (chapter one of the book). Additionally, Warren's avatar can "sign" the book and his signature will appear on the title page. There will be a raffle for fans attending, and 5 winners will be selected to also receive signed copies and t-shirts.
