It would be nice to take a sip of whatever magic juice they’re drinking over at lobby and standards organization CompTIA (Computer Technology
Industry Association). After surveying 471 IT professionals, the group claims
Microsoft’s Internet Explorer, possibly the worst Web browser I have ever used, is “the most influential technology product of the past 25
years.”

In fact, the only non-Microsoft product to crack the top five of the survey was the Apple iPod at number four. So it’s settled, all you other non-Microsoft/Apple companies can fold up your tents, nothing you’ve done in the last two and a half decades has been influential enough to impact CompTIA’s elite IT judges. I imagine Marc
Andreessen (creator of IE pre-cursor Netscape) and Vint Cerf
(instrumental in the creation of the Internet) are devastated.
