A single faulty peripheral was responsible for delays at LAX yesterday that left thousands stranded in the airport. The dodgy NIC (network interface card; you and I use ethernet or WiFi ones, but LAX probably still has 20-year old token ring rustbuckets the size of ceiling tiles, hooked up with BNC connectors and cable as thick as garden hose) took down an entire terminal's signaling system for 9 hours.
