Tilera, a new MIT-originated startup, has gone public with a 64-core processor aimed at the embedded market. Formed by professor Dr. Anal Agarwal, the company deployes technology described as "a sea change in the computing industry" by Tilera marketing supremo Bob Dowd.

The intriguing nature of the technology sets it apart, even before we get to whether it will pan out as a commercial contender. Similar to Intel's Terascale project, Tilera's own tiled, meshed network of on-chip cores has the advantage of springing directly from Agarwal's own pioneering work.
