JsnbParamount Pictures, DreamWorks Animation SKG, Nickelodeon Movies and MTV Films announced that the studios will join Universal and drop support for DVDs encoded in Blu-ray format, opting instead to adopt HD DVD exclusively on a worldwide basis. Brad Grey, Chairman and CEO of Paramount Pictures, said, “I believe HD DVD is not only the affordable high quality choice for consumers, but also the smart choice for Paramount.” This news comes as a potentially crippling blow to the studios still supporting Blu-ray which includes Sony Pictures, Walt Disney, MGM, and Twentieth Century Fox. For consumers this is yet another mark in favor of not choosing a format and opting for dual-format players until the big studios end the format war.
