Today WNYC host asked famed science fiction author and Wired contributor William Gibson, “Are you willing to take any credit for the creation of the Internet as we know it?” Gibson’s answer: “I didn’t get it right. People are more generous than history will be… I didn’t imagine the ubiquity of the Internet.”

Good answer considering that Gibson’s new book “Spook Country” is very similar in theme to his last (“Pattern Recognition”) in that they both seem to borrow heavily from the present (rather than the future) real lives of the Web 2.0 set. In “Pattern Recognition” I’m pretty sure I saw composites or outright portraits of: Esther Dyson, Joi Ito, Jaron Lanier, Josh Rubin and a few others.
