Tell all 9,000 of your friends: MySpace Music is hitting the road.
The social networking site is sponsoring a cross-country concert tour that will roll through thirty U.S. cities in October and November.
The MySpace Music Tour will feature a couple of current MySpace darlings as headliners: physically fit California power poppers hellogoodbye (see pic at right) and the winners of the "so emo they named themselves after a 1980's teen romantic comedy" award, Say Anything. Japanese Devo-lutionaries Polysics will be opening the first half of the run. Also present at the shows will be several "styling stations" stocked with "Extreme Style" brand hair products from tour sponsor VO5.
On Friday, August 31, MySpace members will be able to buy presale tickets before they are made available to the public. There's no venue info yet, but we can only assume that the shows will be accessible to all ages crowds whenever possible.
Polysics is also a recent signing to MySpace Records, the label set up to showcase some of MySpace's most popular acts.
If anything, the news of this concert tour solidifies MySpace's status as the new cornerstone of youth culture. On Tuesday, the site even launched a new fashion channel. Regardless of whether that takes off, the site has music covered. For bands and musicians, MySpace is where it's all happening. Like it or not, if you want to get noticed and gain a decent fanbase, you have to go to MySpace. It's where the people are -- anyone looking for the new coolest bands just cruises MySpace listening to tracks and watching videos. For fans especially, it's like a totally on-demand, interactive version of the original MTV.
