Put Microsoft, Google and Dell in a room together, and what do you get? A half-baked idea for wireless data transmission, apparently.
At least that's the conclusion of the FCC, which has rejected devices submitted by a consortium of those and other companies for sending data over unused portions of the broadcast TV spectrum The Feds say the devices didn't do a good enough of sorting out "white spaces" from in-use bandwidth, thus opening the door to interference. The agency still thinks it's a good idea in principle, however, and encouraged everyone to head back to the drawing board.
