Wired News editor Kevin Poulson might be offering to trade his old Datsun Z for an unlocked iPhone, but he'd better think about upping that offer. George Hotz, the schoolboy hacker who soldered his way to fame, has just swapped one unlocked iPhone for a Nissan 350Z and three more (locked) 8GB iPhones.
The car, which starts at $28,000 new, comes from CertiCell founder Terry Daidone. CertiCell is a phone and battery repair company; they refurb old handsets for businesses. Along with the trade, Geohot has landed consulting work with CertiCell and also PureMobile. Not bad for a kid who just started back at school. From Hotz's blog:
No kidding. Next up? GPS for the iPhone, based on cell tower triangulation. Sweet.
