Researchers at the University of Manchester are working on an onboard method of monitoring your car's pollution output. They've designed a near-infrared diode laser sensor that picks up levels of carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide and methane from your car's exhaust. The researchers hope their device can be incorporated into vehicle diagnostic systems and alert drivers when these pollutant levels get critical, prompting lead-foots to adjust their driving to reduce emissions.
