ToM Recommends Dethroner

I am not much of a man. It's true. Where as most self-proclaimed manly men pack leaden-weight testicles much like blackjacks and prove themselves unafraid to cosh dissenters over the head with them, I am often noticed for the disconcerting way in which I cross my legs, as if my upper thighs were meaty scissor blades aimed at castration.

In fact, I think it's likely that I know less about being a man than anyone on the planet. I like talking about my feelings. I run hysterically around in circles when a bee is in the general vicinity. I feel bad all day if I accidentally step on a snail. I enjoy saccharine J-Pop groups. And my apartment is filled with stuffed animals my mom has given me, since I'm convinced that they'd feel bad if I put them in a closet or gave them away.

Which is why I love Dethroner so much. It's a blog for manly men: in reading it, I feel more like one, and I've even been known to contribute to it. It's for the sort of man who is willing to devote an entire swathe of his life to mastering the art of sausage making. The kind of man who thinks the ultimate bacon cheeseburger is the one with cheese and bacon ground up into the patty. The kind of man who, when bayonetted, ties his intestines into a clove hitch and soldiers on.

Really, the idea of a "lad's blog" is inherently loathsome to me, but Dethroner pulls it off by assuming that the defining quality of manhood is a certain stoic desire towards self-improvement coupled with a love of beer, gadgets and irony... not rank idiocy.

And if that's not enough to sell you, Dethroner's official mascot is this adorable pooch.
