Watching the explosive growth of applications on Facebook fueled by its open API, tech entrepreneurs Jeff Pulver and Jason Kottke (pictured right) read the tea leaves and come to the following conclusions regarding the site’s present and future…

Pulver: “Facebook has moved up in the ecosystem and what was once just a social network for college students has evolved into something else. And if you are AOL or Yahoo! how could you not be chopping at the bid for the opportunity to find a way to make Facebook your own?”

Kottke: “Vimeo is to YouTube as Facebook is to MySpace... not in terms of closed versus open (you do know that Facebook is AOL 2.0, right?) but in terms of being a bit more well thought out and not as, well, ugly (and not just in the aesthetic sense).”
