The Medical Antiquities site somehow makes me wistful for the days when leg surgery was performed with a bottle of whiskey, a strop of leather with a thousand teeth indentation perforated into it and a hacksaw poised against the tibia. I love how the horrors of surgery and 19th century medicine were downplayed through design. For example, consider that pink jar of leeches: it looks like the sort of thing you'd send your sweetie on Valentine's Day, as opposed to a horrible repository for thousands of squirming, blood sucking parasites.
