Steampunk DIY hacker non pareil Jake von Slatt has unveiled his latest creation, the Steampunk Monitor, and it's a delicious doozy. A cheap Dell monitor in black and silver bronzed, oxidized and covered in valves and knobs. The result is absolutely heaven, especially paired with the Steampunk Keyboard and RSS Telegraph Clicker.

It's great to see this get completed. I talked to Jake a few months back for a Wired piece (which is still unpublished) and he was talking about his plans for this. One of the comments he made was that he really wanted to do a steampunk monitor in the style of those old railway station displays, with the clicking, revolving letters. That, of course, would be nearly impossible to orchestrate, but I think he still captured the aesthetic spirit of the thing.

I'm looking forward to seeing Jake's Steampunk Mouse, which he told me would look like a phrenological device for measuring madness, but for the hands.
