Is there anything you can't make from bamboo? The Philippine government official who built this amazing bamboo jeep doesn't think so. According to his son, Dundee, the jeep was originally meant to be a family runaround. Soon it was pressed into official service, first in a showcase for local products, and then as transport for visiting dignitaries and high level politicians. The current Philippine president even rode it when she was a senator.
Cool history aside, bamboo is a great construction material. When properly treated it is stiff and strong, and used to make bicycles, scaffold, and even that dreaded summer festival staple, the didgeridoo. And as it's so much lighter than metal, I'll bet this jeep gets some pretty good mileage.
