In the grand tradition of BarCamps past comes a geek gathering centered around the iPhone. The first iPhoneDevCamp will take place one week after the release of the iPhone, July 6 through 8, at Adobe's San Francisco office a yet-to-be-disclosed location in the San Francisco Bay Area [The location has been officially announced].

The iPhone Dev Camp, conceived by veteran Campers Raven Zachary, whurley and Chris Messina, will not be an iPhone user group meeting or an all-weekend gadget love in. It's not an Apple-sanctioned event, either. Instead, attendees will create and test web applications for the device's Safari browser.

"We know what the limitations of the iPhone are," says event coordinator whurley, "but rather than simply bitching about them, we're going to get together and actually built and test some cool applications for the device."

Call it putting a positive spin on Steve Jobs' positive spin.

All attendees will be asked to participate in some way, either by presenting, programming or testing -- no lurkers! (I'll be there testing and blogging). Also, you don't need to be an iPhone owner to attend, but the more iPhones at the camp, the more apps we'll be able to test.
