Following yesterday's post highlighting the various foreign editions of Jack Kerouac's On The Road comes another great gallery of Beat Generation covers, this time for the novels of William S. Burroughs. A completely cubed non-user amongst my teenage crowd of vipers and junkies, I never really learned to appreciate Burroughs, though I did my damnedest to get through Junkie (I had the edition in the middle, which is still a beautiful cover). I'm often tempted to give it another go, but ultimately I think I'm more intrigued with Burroughs as an individual (an elderly addict who once shot his wife in the face while drunkenly playing "William Tell") than as a writer. Although if someone republished Junkie with that Ace Edition cover, I'd probably be tempted to give it one more try.
