Wait, let's back up. Bionicon? Yes, FINALLY, a confab for Six Million Dollar Man fans! Lee Majors, who played Steve Austin in the cheesy hit series from the 70s, is the headliner. He'll sign autographs and pose with his legion of fan(s). The cast of Buck Rogers also will be there, including Erin Gray, whose lycra jumpers deserve full credit for my early fascination, as an 11-year-old, with sci fi. Lindsay Wagner, who played Jamie Sommers, isn't on the guest list (there's maybe a Marcus Welby convention that same weekend?), nor is Michelle Ryan, the *EastEnders *hottie that NBC picked to reprise the role in their new series, coming next fall.
The source material's 35 years old (the original Six Million Dollar Man, off of which The Bionic Woman spun, was adapted from the 1972 novel Cyborg). Updates necessary. Like: Steve Austin's arm contained a geiger counter. Will Jamie Sommers' kneecap seek out dirty bombs? Can we maybe do a show about the $6 million Barry Bonds and Floyd Landis have in their bloodstreams? Will NBC use the latest digital technologies to make their super-slow-mo leaping scenes even slo-mo-er? And can we please please have a scene with Jamie unhitching her limbs and putting them on the conveyer belt at airport security?
