The Taipei-based newspaper Economic Daily News is, according to Digitimes, reporting that VIA has dismissed "speculation" that it may sell off its chipmaking business to secure a licensing deal with Intel. However, it's not really clear exactly who is doing the speculation, as it isn't attributed in the short missive from Digitimes.

Intel and VIA have a storied relationship, with patent trollery galore long before we even knew what patent trolling was. But wasn't this all settled years ago? The idea that VIA is outright incapable of competing with Intel seems a little, well, editorialized.

If you're mystified by this post, VIA Technologies makes all sorts of cool novelties, like thesmallest consumer motherboards, the other UMPC chip, and chipset drivers that actually work. It'd be a shame to see it chopped up.
