The Visual Effects Society has released a list of the 50 most influential visual effects films of all times, with top honors going to Star Wars, Blade Runner and 2001: A Space Odyssey.

The VES 50 was determined by a vote among its 1,500 global membership, which include artists,
producers, technology developers, educators and studio executives. Tron landed at No. 6; George Melies 1902 classic A Trip to the Moon was No. 13 and hey, look, even Marry Poppins made it at No.32. The most recent films were Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest (2006), King Kong (2005) and Sin City (2005).

Inevitably, someone always feels left off such lists, and fans can take their grievances straight to the powers that be, at VES’s annual Festival of Visual Effects, taking place will June 7-10 at the Writers Guild Theater in Beverly Hills. Check it out for special screenings, cool panels like Battlestar Galactica: Then and Now and The Art of the Miniature: What Can You Get Me in Two Weeks? And finally, a closing-night panel loaded with F/X Academy Awards winners, who will discuss the picks and their influence.
