Alien_apexHaving OK'ed Spaceport America, the first facility designed to encourage space tourism, the New Mexico State Legislature now has given a grant to help boost the chances for launch of Alien Apex, an ET-themed amusement park. The town of Roswell hopes to build the $800 million theme park to help boost its economic fortunes, which have become heavily reliant on *X-Files-*obsessed tourons, many who make the annual trip to the dusty town in southern New Mexico for the Roswell UFO Festival. The festival this year celebrates the 60th anniversary of the supposedly mysterious crash (it was a weather balloon, people!). Alien Apex head Bryan Temmer spoke in an interview about the plans:

The flagship attraction will be a highly themed alien abduction indoor roller coaster. The ride promises to set a new standard for indoor roller coaster attractions. My hope is to break at least 3 world records with this ride. It's also not every day that you can visit a theme park and get abducted by aliens without any serious side effects.
