There's been a slew of fascinating weapons granted patents this week. All are deserving of attention, so let me just give the highlights:
There's a wireless stun gun Taser that can shoot stunning projectiles "without the need for range limiting trailing wires." Always useful.
Defense contractor BAE System has patented a "magnetically driven underwater pulse generator" that creates a high pressure shock wave to destroy underwater threats. DARPA apparently funded work on the weapon.
Now here's my favorite, which I'm calling the Death By Tanning Weapon. It's a portable high-intensity ultraviolet (UV-C) light gun that's primarily intended for use against pathogens. But, in a pinch, it could prove useful for "self-defense use or in military combat, to project a stream of harmful ultraviolet light onto an attacker to cause temporary or permanent physical injury such as eye and skin damage."
If you don't die, I guess you'll just look tacky.
