I often wish I was just a few years older, that I could have experienced the zine subculture in its full glory. The Internet's wonderful — like a fiberoptic connection directly into the collective human consciousness — but the smell of purple Xerox print on cheap paper, the strange layouts and skewed typewriter fonts somehow scream anarchy to me.

So this archive of vintage Punk Zines makes me wistful. The Internet seems so slick and soulless compared to this. You imagine a thousand angry nineteen year olds, banging away at their typewriters in the middle of the night, pounding back their tenth can of Pabst Blue Ribbon. And here I am in blogger land, smoking my meerschaum and daintily tippling a Belgian geuze. It's not fair.
