Commenters on my post about Deanna Molinaro's delightfully morbid children's book The Lonely Sea Monster seemed much chagrinned that I would overlook her earlier cephalophile effort, The Inconsolable Octopus. The happiest and friendliest octopus in the world lives a dark and terrible secret life.

Bluntly, I don't think it's as good as The Lonely Sea Monster: anthropomorphic octopi do nothing for me, and it feels like more of a non sequitur. But I'm still left wondering what exactly Jeffrey did to Penelope. My guess is he sold her into the sex trade industry to that disreputable looking prawn in the greasy brown overcoat.
