The Official Star Wars website has released the trailer for the upcoming 2008 Clone Wars CGI series, a continuation of the excellent Cartoon Network series of 2003 headed by Genddy Tartakovsky (who isn't returning for this series, presumably because he's busy on the Dark Crystal sequel)

It looks... okay, I guess. There's some clever visual throwbacks to scenes from the original trilogy, but I'm personally so disgusted by the prequels that it's pretty hard to get excited by a series set in the same universe, with the same maudlin characters. There's Whinekin Crywalker, played by a boy toy. There's Yoda, who hasn't bothered to learn English syntax in nine centuries. There's Amidala, who doesn't do anything except get impregnated yet refuses to at least take off her top. And then there's Samuel L. Jackson.

I much prefer the original trilogy's setting, where every spaceship is rusty, the galaxy is run by a dark and malevolent empire and Jedis aren't ubiquitous. But that last point is exactly the reason they're setting it during the Clone Wars: so they can have a million magic aliens with laser swords hopping around, wacking at each other.

That said, I really did enjoy the original Clone Wars series... or, at least, a hell of a lot more than the films.
