During his latest podcast, Sequoia Capital’s Jason Calacanis claimed to have inside information from a well-placed source indicating that a solid state Apple laptop is on the way soon. The tidbit was revealed during a conversation with former Silicon Alley hotshot Jeff Dachis, one of the founders of the original Razorfish (now Avenue A|Razorfish).
The rumors of a new Apple ultra-portable with a solid state flash drive are nothing new. As envisioned the new laptops would be much thinner, consumer less power and offer nearly three times the battery life. Although many Apple watchers are expecting something big on Tuesday, it’s not likely that we’ll see significant Apple laptop format changes until the latter part of the year.
According to Bloomberg, Apple has captured 9.9 percent of the U.S. laptop market, just behind Toshiba (26.2 percent), Hewlett Packard (23.9 percent) and Gateway (13 percent).
