Memorial Day weekend means beaches, barbecues, and a few hundred people killed on the roadways. States across the country will be enforcing seatbelt laws in an effort to convince the stubborn and selfish holdouts to buckle up.
Pennsylvania will be among many statessetting up check points to remind people that not wearing a seatbelt is against the law. Some folks argue that the laws are invasive, but not wearing a seatbelt is an incredibly selfish act. I say selfish because it is unfair to the family members that you leave behind if you are killed or permanently disabled because of your choice of "freedom." Besides the emotional baggage, many families are left to pay the bills or fend for themselves because a selfish parent neglected to buckle up.
Even if you are a safe driver, seat belts limit your injuries or likelihood of death because other folks aren't driving safely. I just don't get why folks refuse to drive while belted. It only takes a few seconds, and you never know when it could save your life.
