Regolith_artWhile Wired News didn't send anyone to the Regolith Excavation Challenge this past weekend in Santa Maria, California, The Associated Press, (bless their hearts) did.

The AP reports that all four teams were unsuccessful at digging through regolith (that's a fancy word for moon dirt), and none were able to dig up 330 pounds of the stuff in 30 minutes.

One team from Technology Ranch (Pismo Beach, Calif.) got almost halfway there, with 143 pounds in the alloted time.

Once the teams regroup, they'll have a shot at a bigger bounty ($750,000) for next year's competition.
