A media torrent was uncorked the other day, when the military released a survey showing that more than a third of troops in Iraq were okay with torture, if it produced information about insurgents. Turns out, though, I had an early summary of the study ten days ago -- and even posted it on the blog.

But I was looking for the impact on long tours on soldiers' stress -- not on their ethics. So the questions on torture and whether it's okay to treat "all non-combatants... as insurgents" went totally over my head. In the rush to post, I'm not even sure I read the 30-page survey summary all the way to page 21, when the ethical issues began.

That's a mistake I'll never repeat again, God willing.

Usually, DANGER ROOM's Press Corpse feature slams other journalists for being lazy and lame. This time, it's me who deserves to be skewered.
