British indie rockers The Crimea have made their new album, Secrets of the Witching Hour, available as a free download on their site. Despite scoring big last year with top UK single "Lottery Winners on Acid," the band was recently dropped from a deal with Warner Music. Undeterred, the quintet self-financed a series of new recordings, which feature a guest spot by Regina Spektor, and opted to give the collection away online. The idea, says drummer Owen Hopkin, is to spread the gospel as far and fast as possible.
So far, Witching Hour has been downloaded more than 15,000 times. A CD version of the album is also available from The Crimea's site.
