The array of gadgets in today's cars almost guarantees your fellow driver's attention is anywhere but on the road -- which makes Lexus' decision to put a Driver Monitoring System in its LS600hL model seem like a stroke of brilliance. Essentially, it's a camera that sits on the steering column and monitors the orientation of the driver's face, alerting him with a chime and flashing light if his attention drifts from the road ahead of him. If the warning isn't heeded, the system will gently apply the brakes and retract the seat belts while "assisting" the driver in steering off his crash course.
