Mitsubishi Motor Corporation says it has the lithium ion batteries it needs to deliver an electric vehicle by 2010.
Mitsubishi and GS Yuasa Corporation have started a joint venture company to begin mass producing lithium ion batteries in 2009.
Mitsubishi says the batteries have 10 times the capacity of today's hybrid vehicle batteries.
The batteries will be put to work in the MiEV (Mitsubishi innovative Electric Vehicle), a smallish 4-seater car. The car will use in-wheel motors, a growing trend because of the energy efficiency.
Reliable lithium ion batteries would revolutionize the automotive industry in hybrid and electric vehicles. I'm hoping that my next car will have lithium ion batteries.
