Mitsubishi Motors Corporation and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries have co-developed a vehicle air conditioner that reduces energy use by 30 percent. The new AC unit will debut later this year in the Outlander SUV.

For those who live in places where the summers are hot or humid (basically anyone outside of the Northwest), flipping on the AC is the key to comfort. Cutting back on the fuel required to keep cool is becoming increasingly important as the multiple miles per gallon you lose by using the AC is getting more costly by the day.

Mitsubishi was awarded a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) 2007 Climate Protection Award for its engineering.
