Ever since moving to Oregon I've been amazed at how patient and slow the drivers are in Portland. A national survey backs up my experience that the city is home to the most courteous drivers.
At four-way intersections drivers are hesitant to make the first move; my years of East Coast living trained me to go ahead. You can drive 60 or less in the passing lane and still cruise by others who uniformly obey the 55 mile an hour limit on most highways. Unfortunately the concepts of "every other car" and moving to the left to allow cars to merge hasn't caught on here, so highway on ramps often cause unnecessary jams.
Miami (it's the heat and the humidity), Boston and New York (surprise!) were voted the cities most likely for drivers to be flipped the bird, according to the survey from AutoVantage. Pittsburgh and Seattle also rated high for considerate driving.
