An ethics investigation into the New Orleans representative who socked away $90,000 in cash in his freezer has seen little progress since it began a year ago. Rep. William Jefferson (D-Louisiana) has been under federal investigation for allegedly taking bribes on African telecom deals and accepting a $100,000 payment from an FBI informant. The House Committee on Standards of Official Conduct is supposed to be looking into the mischief but has done very little. Five months into the new Congress, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-California) has yet to even appoint Democrats to the committee, according to Capitol Hill newspaper Roll Call. Original story.
