Green is apparently the new black. For this week's JavaOne Conference in San Francisco Sun Microsystems is following suit with the 79th Oscars and making the event eco-friendly and sustainable. As part of their wider reaching Eco Responsibility Initiative greening their events is going to become par for the course.

But what does this mean for us conference-goers?

"Biodegradable food service products & packaging - including a salad bowl made from corn starch."

It actually gets better. In addition to powering the conference with the Moscone Center's rooftop solar array, Sun is also working with the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition to arrange for 'Bike Valet' service for the conference's eco-conscious attendees. Even the giftbag is getting the green treatment. Its contents? An organic t-shirt, and a note pad made from recycled paper and printed with soy ink. Ah, the costs of conservation.
