How's this for inverted logic -- SUV sales are rising at almost the same rate as the price of gasoline.
The San Francisco Chronicle (quoting data from Edmunds) says GMC's Yukon XL sales were up a 72 percent in April and the Chevy Suburban rose 38 percent. Both vehicles get about 15 miles to the gallon (per the new EPA ratings), so you'll be paying nearly $300 per month just to keep these monsters in gasoline. But if you are paying $40K for a vehicle, you might not be all that concerned about the mileage.
I stopped on Friday to fill up and the attendant told me that business was indeed booming as they are selling more gas then ever.
