German police are adapting one of the most notorious tactics of the East German secret police force in an effort they say is intended to crack down on violent protestors at the upcoming G8 Summit, according to the BBC. The German police force is collecting scent samples from individuals it suspects will cause trouble, which will be used to allow police dogs to find the individuals in a large crowd of people.
The tactic was infamously used by the East German Stasi, which was known for breaking into people's homes to steal unwashed underwear and for grabbing sweat samples from chairs where citizens were interrogated.
