Sitting in traffic means sucking up the ambient air, which is not a good idea in LA (surprise), Pittsburgh and Bakersfield. The American Lung Association released its annual state of the air report, and LA again has the most soot in the air. (As they say in LA, don't trust any air you can't see.)

You might also want to keep the windows rolled up in Detroit, Cleveland and Cincinnati, which also were among the least breathable 10 cities. Sooty air is particular bad for children and people with asthma or other breathing ailments.

As you might expect, very few big cities were on the good air list, with the exception of Miami (ah those ocean breezes) and the
Tucson/Phoenix area.

Cabin air filters are the first line of defense and should be replaced yearly, according to Robert Bosch, which makes said products. Who out there routinely checks the cabin air filter? Sure, we keep our engine air filters from clogging up, but our windbags are even more important in the long run. So put a note on your calendar for a yearly air checkup.
