Three influential internet companies announced on Monday that they have teamed up to create a venue to host the first online presidential debates. The two debates -- one for 2008 Democratic presidential candidates, the other for Republicans -- will take place after Labor Day on the sites of internet giant Yahoo, online news magazine Slate and popular political blog The Huffington Post.
The decision to conduct debates online is a natural outcome of political discourse exploding on the internet in recent years. Several pols announced their 2008 candidacies with an online media blitz. Others set up political base camps in massive online games such as Second Life (some to their dismay).
The debates, which will be hosted by PBS's Charlie Rose, will allow voters to ask candidates questions, participate in the action in real-time and decide who they think is winning the oratory battle. All presidential hopefuls who have formally announced their candidacies will receive invitations.
What are you waiting for? Formally announce your candidacy.
