In the category of "best job ads ever" is one from Maryland's Faerie Festival for someone to play local legend Goatman. Applicant must be "willing to run around with horns on his head." Steve "Maugorn" Haug, the Festival's Entertainment Coordinator, writes:
Not only will [Goatman's] mission be to provide entertainment,
fun, and merry mischief, but also to highlight how sacred and special the woodsof this area must be to produce such a legend. I need someone who isfearless . . . who's willing toplay silly jokes on our patrons and staff, who's willing to go over the top toinspire a public hungry for magic to come back to their lives, and who's able todo so without scaring the children. (Yeah some of the Goatmanlegends have some scare to them, but this is a family show.) I have someexcellent ideas for someone who's willing to do this. Costuming can be had or made. Andfor the right candidate . . . I have budgetary approvalfor this to be a paid position.
The Faerie Festival starts in late May, so if you're ready to be Goatman, now's the time to apply! You can do research on Wikipedia, where there is a fairly detailed entry about Goatman (not to be confused with the superhero Goat Girl, who defeats bad guys with the power of clumsiness).
