The Lotus design philosophy ("performance through light weight") produced a production sports car, the Lotus Elise, that gets phenomenal acceleration, braking, and cornering out of a 120 bhp engine thanks to a dry curb weight of just 1,500 pounds.
Of course, the Lotus Exige and Lotus Elise — gray and black, respectively — now have another claim to fame: they share their platform with the Tesla Roadster.
